The opening day of the season saw Brandlesholme Warriors arrive at our new home, St Brendans to take on The Bullets. A warm and bright late summer morning made playing conditions excellent. The Bullets welcomed our newest player Daniel to his first league game and Sam Dunkerley was on holiday. The game kicked off and the early exchanges were quite even as both sides found their feet at the start of a new campaign. The Bullets soon took control with Robert, Matty and Nathan seizing the intiative in midfield. A good move with some good passing led to a corner on the right hand side. Jak Gill swung the corner over at pace with his trusty left foot and the ball flew straight in at the far post. Brandlesholme were playing well themsleves and the goalkeeper was in excellent form. Their attacks were broken up by Thomas and Jak in defence who were being very well marshalled by Christian "safe hands" Park in goal. Another good move through midfield saw Dominic break clear and finish coolly under the advancing goalkeeper. Daniel, Jack Collings and Patrick now entered the fray and made an immediate impact with first Jack and then Patrick firing superb shots into the same top corner of the net. Half time arrived and the boys had a well earned drink and rest. The second half began with some Brandlesholme pressure but Matty and Patrick held firm at the back whilst the midfield worked hard to tackle and defend high up the pitch. Daniel was full of running and Dominic was a real handful out wide. Jack Collings added another two goals with clinical finishing to complete a brilliant hat trick and this was added to by Nathan with a fierce shot and another goal from a corner from Jak Gill. The Bullets were now in control of the game and passing the ball really well together with tackilng and working for each other. Thomas completed the scoring with a close range finish after a great run forward. A fantastic start to the season from The Bullets who put into practice what they have been learning at training and played as a team. The game was enjoyed by a large, ehthusiastic crowd who clapped both teams off at the final whistle.
